The programme in general – Stipendium

The Hungarian Government announced the policy of Global Opening as part of which the Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship Programme was launched in 2013 for foreign students. The Programme is based on intergovernmental contracts on educational affairs signed between the Hungarian government and the partner countries. The aim of the programme is to promote cultural understanding, economic and political relations between Hungary and other countries.

Grant proposals are to be submitted in the sending countries by applicants for pre-selection. Following an evaluation process applications are forwarded to the TEMPUS PUBLIC FOUNDATION, which is the Hungarian coordination unit of the Programme.

Applicants with a scholarship pursuing their full BA/BSc, MA/MSc or undivided MA or PhD studies receive the following provisions:

no tuition fee
monthly stipend:
40 460 HUF (cca 130 EUR) per month in the case of BA/BSc, MA/MSc programs
100 000 HUF (cca 325 EUR) per month for PhD students – PhD students starting their studies in September 2016 receive HUF 140 000 (cca EUR 435) per month
dormitory places or additional contribution to accommodation costs: HUF 30 000 (EUR 100)
free of charge use of library
medical insurance

The travel costs have to be covered by the applicants.

Supported activities in terms of academic levels:

Full time studies:

BA/BSc (undergraduate 3,5 years)
MA/MSc (graduate 2 years)
PhD studies (doctoral 4 years)

Part-time studies

Preparatory course in Hungarian Language (1 year)
